Stock Competition

The Financial Management Association of San Jose State University holds a Stock Portfolio competition for its students each semester. This is a fun and interactive competition between all SJSU business students that want to experience the stock market. The participant initially pays a small fee at the beginning of the competition. The association then allows students into the competition where they can purchase actual securities through a stock market simulator and compete with others who are doing the same.

The purchase of these securities will be through virtual funds (usually in the range between $50k - $100k of funds in the account). After a period of one month, the association decides the first place and second place winners off of the two highest portfolio returns in the competition. This overall is a great learning experience for students to learn about finance related terms, concepts, and models through trading in a virtual platform.

The competition in Fall 2013 had 78 participants that played. The participants used the Investopedia simulator. Each participant paid a small fee with a first place cash prize of $100 and second place cash prize of $25.

Congratulations to our Fall 2013 winners, Hoa Ha  and Chelsea Jackson
